Contemporary Atmospheric Realism (CAR)…what is it? Neither fully tonalism nor traditional realism, it lives somewhere beautifully in between. It blends softened edges, tonal harmony, luminous light, and subtle optical refraction with a sense of romance and nostalgia, creating familiar scenes that feel less like something simply observed and more like a memory you’ve lived, loved, or long to return to.
Logan is a Contemporary Artist born and raised in Central Kentucky. As a Lexington native, she grew up with an appreciation for art through culture and community. From an early age, she devoted countless hours to sketching and developing her creative voice, eventually turning her focus toward landscapes and still life painting. Over the course of more than two decades, Logan explored a variety of artistic outlets before discovering a deep connection to oil painting — a medium that continues to shape her expressive, atmospheric style today.
Known for her evocative use of color, light, and mood, Logan creates paintings that blend realism with emotion, inviting viewers into quiet moments of reflection and wonder. Her work serves as a modern nod to contemporary tonalism, emphasizing atmosphere, harmony, and subtle shifts in value and temperature. Influenced by artists such as John Singer Sargent and Edgar Payne, Logan’s paintings combine classical foundations with a contemporary sensitivity through nuanced brushwork, restrained palettes, and an emphasis on composition and mood.
In 2024, Logan launched her first art business venture, The Pretty Palette Co., which later evolved into Palette Studio — originally a commercial studio space located in historic Georgetown, Kentucky. Since then, Palette Studio has transitioned into her private in-home working studio, where she continues to create original works while also offering private lessons and courses designed to encourage creativity and artistic growth within her community.
A pivotal influence on Logan’s work came through her introduction to plein air painting, where direct observation of nature deepened her understanding of light, color, and the emotional presence of a landscape. This balance between open-air studies and refined studio practice remains evident throughout her work. Drawing inspiration from the techniques and materials of the Old Masters, Logan strives to create timeless paintings intended to be lived with, cherished, and passed down for generations.
